20 Of The Most Magical Witch Movies & Shows Of All Times

20 Of The Most Magical Witch Movies & Shows Of All Times

I always wanted to be a witch growing up, before I could even understand what it meant. A powerful, magic inducing, evil fighting, people-helping witch is what I imagined myself to be when I was growing up. So naturally, old school halloween, horror & witchy movies & shows have always been a delight to watch. From growing up watching Harry Potter to Sonpari (ngl, she was pretty cool), I've seen it all. As I grew older, I had access to even more witchy shows, books & movies or documentaries thanks to streaming service, that have really hit the mark for me. Here are a few of my favourite witchy, magical & supernatural shows & movies that you can watch when you to feel magical! Let us know how many of these have you watched.

1. The Good Witch: Netflix

The ENTIRE movie series & now a 7 season TV show follows a "good" witch, Cassie Nightingale & her adventures on helping other people, that seem magical. Filled co-incidences, an apothecary (you know I'm a sucker for a good apothecary) called Bell, Book & Candle in a quaint little mystical town, this show has been my favourite feel good show to sit with a warm cup of tea in my bed with. Chances are, if I'm having a bad day, not answering my phone or need a boost of positivity, I'm probably rewatching this feel good show. Watch it for a peaceful night.

2. The Craft- LegacyNetflix

Recommended by a teammate, this horror movie follows a coven in the making that consists of high school students with supernatural gifts. As they form a coven of witches, they struggle to control their dark powers in this sequel to the cult classic. Watch it for the chills.

3. The Blair Witch Project: Amazon Prime

Just about every small town has a legend of its own about that terrifying force that haunts the woods on the edge of town -- and often, it's a wicked, old witch living as a recluse and making children's lives a nightmare if they dare explore her property. It's the sort of rumor that draws film students into the Maryland wilderness to look for and document the existence of the so-called Blair Witch who's committed murder and hexed men to carry out her bidding in The Blair Witch Project. Watch it for the chills.

4. Hocus PocusPreviously on Amazon Prime

A cult classic, this halloween movie came out when I was REALLY young so I got a chance to watch it pretty recently. It follows 3 bubble & trouble toiling, broomstick flying witches who thoroughly terrorise the kids in a small town. Watch it for the nostalgia of early 90s.

5. SupernaturalAmazon Prime

I admit, although this ain't a "witchy" movie, Sam & Dean have been a part of my screens since as long as I can remember. I remember watching Dean's 1967 Chevrolet Impala with a hidden boot & supernatural paraphernalia back when it aired on AXN. Through them, I learnt that you can actually defend yourself from darkness & make your supernatural job a real one! Besides, they don't hurt the eyes at all. Castiel was arguably my favourite character along with the horseman of "Death". I loved every single episode, the deities, folklores, ghosts & demons that they fought & witches who occassionally helped them. Watch if for adventures & protection.

6. BewitchedAmazon Prime

I first watched the Nicole Kidman movie version of this 1960's show when I was really young, It follows a witch, her powerful mother & her misadventures with her husband as he gets to know that he is married to a witch. From the nose wiggling to her magically cleaning up the house in true retro style got me hooked. It also taught me to not hide my authentic self in order to be more acceptable & that if someone truly loves you, they will accept you just the way you are after processing the shock. Watch it for the laughs.

7. I Dream of JeannieSony Liv

Jeannie the genie meets her handsome NASA astronaut master when he lands on an empty beach. This too is another feel good series that I watch as Jeannie wiggles her nose to "help" her master who she is in love with. Barbara Eden, who plays Jeannie, is radiant, beautiful, witty & straight up magical in those pink harem pants in her pink bottle room. Watch it to feel good.

8. A Discovery of WitchesSony Liv

This was recommended to me by a very close client turned friend recently & I have been hooked to it. It follows a powerful modern day witch who is denying her own uncontrollable, raw power but learning to harness it. It also touches upon alchemy, other supernatural groups such as vampires & demons & generally sheds a lot of light on rituals, the knowledge & the fight between the dark & light. Watch it to gain additional knowledge on spellworks & other witchy things.

9. Maid of SalemPreviously on Amazon Prime

This 1930's really old movie is a historical love story that touches briefly on the Salem Witch Trials. It is a love story of a man & a woman convicted of sorcery & talks about the ordeals that women went through back in the day. Watch it for history.

10. Sabrina The Teenage WitchPreviously on Amazon Prime, Newer series on Netflix

Different from the Netflix series Sabrina, the OG Mellissa Joan Hart's Sabrina is a feel good series of Sabrina, the teenage witch, her talking cat Luna & her loving aunts who help her come into her power. It also follows her struggles of being a teenager. I love the humour, her wardrobe & laughing on the mistakes she makes but all the guidance she gets as she steps into her power & high school. Watch it for nostalgia.

11. That's So RavenHotstar

Arguably my favourite show till date, I walked around high school with my best friend thinking I was Raven Baxter (or Lizzie McGuire on some days). She is downright my favourite Disney channel character who still has me in splits every time i watch it, till today! I revisit this show to reminisce the old days when I watched it after coming home from school. It truly taught me what the term "psychic" meant & I just knew it was my calling. Watch it for laughs & nostalgia.

12Bell, Book & CandlePreviously on Amazon Prime

This 1950's movie follows Gillian, a witch who casts a spell on the man to make him fall in love with her. However, she too starts falling in love with him which wasn't the plan. It actually sparked the idea & became the primary inspiration for the show Bewitched. Watch it for nostalgia.

13. Harry Potter SeriesAmazon Prime

This list WILL not be completed without Harry Potter. I am a huge fan & have followed the series since I was really young. I am still waiting for my letter from Hogwarts. The story revolves around yet another powerful wizard who learns how to use & control his powers, the fight against good vs bad, light vs dark & the power of friendship & love. Not only does it teach you the various aspects behind magic but also how to come into your power & stand up for what you believe in. Watch it for nostalgia.

14. OutlanderNetflix

This is my favourite show. Period. My personal instagram handle is inspired by this show & I am in love with this book-turned-series that is slowly & finally rising to fame. It follows Claire Randall, a war nurse, who mysteriously travels back in time when she is visiting Scotland (also my favourite country). She stumbles upon a witch coven performing a ritual on a sacred stone, which is actually a portal that transports you through time. She is transported back 200 years where she makes a life for herself, falls in love & goes on to become a prominent figure. Watch it for the history & also it is the BEST SHOW EVER!

15. Oz the Great and PowerfulHotstar

Recommended by our teammate, this movie is the prequel to the original Wizard of Oz. Oscar Diggs escapes from the circus he works for and lands in the Land of Oz where he meets a witch, Theodora. She assumes that he is a wizard who has been hired to kill her competitor. Watch it for power.

16. The Addam's FamilyAmazon Prime

Arguably the most popular series that we would watch growing up, it follows the eccentric and macabre Addams family moves to a bland suburb in New Jersey. Today, we can all relate to Wednesday's dark demeanour whenever Monday hits. Watch it for the nostalgia.

17. Witches: A Century of MurderNetflix

This is a little different from the others on the list. This show is actually a documentary that talks about the origin, process & gruesomeness of the infamous "witch" trials that killed a lot of women & men who were charged with sorcery. Watch it to educate yourself on the true struggle, hysterical nature & history.

18. Wanda VisionHotstar

My list would be incomplete without my beloved Wanda, the Scarlet Witch, an intensely powerful witch going through one of the toughest time in her life. The grief of losing her one true love took her to her shadow side, facing her fear & grief, that she took a lot of time processing. Through this process, she met a nemesis who wanted to steal her power. By processing her shadow side & the reality, she came to become one of the most powerful witch by taming her incredible power. She truly was an inspiration for me as she rose through her shadows & embraced her true nature, her powers & how she rose to the challenge to protect everyone. Watch it if you are a Marvel fan.

19. The Chilling Adventures of SabrinaNetflix

She is dark, torn & downright demonic but so powerful. A modern day & much darker retelling of Sabrina The Teenage Witch, the show follows our beloved Sabrina Spellman as she balances her school lives - both in the "real" world & the witch's school. It details how powerful dark magic can both sustain & destroy. I did watch a few seasons but it did get a little dark for me but showed me quite a lot of mythology when it comes to demons & how the occult operates. Watch it for the chills.

20. The Witches of EastwickAmazon Prime

This 1980s classic has a STELLAR cast. It follows Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon & Cher who are three dissatisfied single women living in the picturesque town of Eastwick, Rhode Island. They have their wishes granted at a cost, when a mysterious and flamboyant man arrives in their lives, to satisfy all their desires. It follows their adventures as the discover their powers. Watch it for nostalgia.
